Real food, grown locally, served to your child every day.
School lunch shouldn't be an afterthought. At CRCS, every meal is locally sourced, freshly prepared, and part of how your child learns about where food comes from.
Most school lunch programs settle for "good enough."
You pack lunches because you don't trust the alternative. Mass-produced, reheated, processed — the typical school cafeteria meal isn't something you'd choose for your child. And even when it's technically "nutritious on paper," you know the difference between a frozen chicken patty and a real meal.
Your child deserves better. And you shouldn't have to pack a lunch every morning to make sure they get it.
Processed & pre-packaged
Most school meals come from industrial supply chains — frozen, shipped, and reheated. Nutrition labels check boxes, but the food doesn't nourish.
No connection to the food
Kids eat without knowing where their food comes from, how it's grown, or why it matters — a missed opportunity for lifelong learning.
Cost shouldn't be a barrier
Families shouldn't have to choose between affording good food and their child eating well at school.
We partner with local farms and kitchens to feed your child the way you would.
At CRCS, lunch isn't a cafeteria line — it's a hot, freshly prepared meal made with ingredients sourced from farms and producers right here in central Maine. We partner with The Maine Meal, a local kitchen in downtown Skowhegan that shares our belief that children learn better when they eat better.
Our school's own agriculture program feeds directly into this effort. Learners grow produce and raise eggs that go right back into the meals they eat — closing the loop between classroom learning and real, tangible food on their plate.
Our Kitchen Partner: The Maine Meal
Located in downtown Skowhegan, The Maine Meal prepares fresh, locally sourced hot lunches for CRCS learners every school day. Same philosophy, same commitment to quality. Learn more about The Maine Meal
From the soil to the lunch table.
This isn't a slogan — it's a real process your child participates in:
Grown Locally
Ingredients come from Maine farms like Cayford Orchards, Herring Brothers, and Maine Grains — plus produce from CRCS's own agriculture program.
Prepared Fresh
The Maine Meal cooks hot lunches from scratch every day using locally sourced ingredients — no frozen trays, no reheating.
Served to Your Child
Every learner gets a hot, nutritious meal at school. Breakfast is provided free every morning as a grab-and-go option.
Sourced from farms and producers you can actually visit.
Our meals aren't shipped from a warehouse across the country. They come from neighbors, local growers, and Maine-based producers who share our commitment to quality, sustainability, and community. Here are just a few:
